The various Bowen-derived techniques are not generally
taught as home-study courses, and for a number of good reasons.
But never let it be said that theres nothing to read about
the theory and practice of Tom Bowens work.
While Gene Dobkin was with the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia® (BTAA)
(Bowtech®), he began a companion text to supplement the training manual.
This project gradually took on a life of its own, turning into two volumes.
Volume I is more technical in nature, with varieties of description and some
outrageously graphic illustrations. Volume II is broader and more expositional.
Theres more of the philosophy and physiology, the hows and whys,
cross-references to other systems, marketing and client communication issues,
and even a short history of medical hierarchy.
At the time, the books received the highest respect and approval from all levels
of the Bowen Academy. After Gene left the Bowen Academy to work with other
Bowen systems, the official approval was, understandably, rescinded. But Bowtech® students,
many Instructors, and countless others have continued to depend on A Bowen
Home Companion, as supplement to or substitute for the official academy
text. (It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery -- The official
Bowen Association website still quotes extensively from A Bowen Home Companion.)
By now, these books have been through several printings, and are currently
in use in 15 countries worldwide.
Let us be clear that the books are NOT about how to do Neural Touch.
Nor are they reflective of Mr. Dobkins current understanding of the historical
and theoretical underpinnings of Tom Bowens legacy. The Bowen Home
Companion books were specifically designed to illuminate and expand upon
an earlier, somewhat more austere interpretation of Tom Bowens work,
albeit one that has considerable healing potential and an extensive following.
Certainly no book is quite the same as taking a class, but these will bring
you quite a ways along.
Cost of the books is $50 US per volume plus shipping and handling.

Gene Dobkin, one of our seminar instructors of
the Bowen Academy of Australia is an exceptionally talented writer.
Gene has painstakingly compiled a wealth of valuable information
for the experienced Bowen Therapist. Well done Gene, enriching
and enjoyable.
OSSIE RENTSCH, Founder, BTAA
Information rich and very practical. The Bowen Home Companion will help
you further your understanding and become a better and more successful practitioner.
It covers useful topics that, because of lack of time, are usually not addressed
during seminars. I will recommend it without hesitation to all my students.
PATRIK ROUSSELOT, PT, BTAA Instructor, U.S.A.
An amazing collection of wit, wisdom, and insight into the most powerful
modality at your fingertips.
ALASTAIR McGLOUGHLIN, BTAA Instructor, U.K.
They're really good. I wish the book that they hand out in classes was as
detailed as this -- had as much thought put into it. But these are great. I'll
use them quite a bit.

Clear, concise and descriptive in its presentation. The weaving of philosophy,
perspectives and humor makes this manual more than just a technical presentation.
Gene Dobkin understands the wholistic approach to health and well being. A
must for the serious Bowen practitioner.
PRUDENCE BROADWELL, ND, L.Ac., BTAA Instructor, U.S.A.
Many thanks for the prompt dispatch of Volumes I & II of the Bowen Home
Companion. They are excellent, lots of useful information and written with
a great sense of humor!
MAUREEN PRITCHARD, BTAA Student, U.K.
BRAVO! Outstanding! and congratulations. What a monumental effort you made and
the passion and love you feel for this work shines through. Brilliant!
Thank you.
LAUREN GIANNINI, BTAA Student, U.S.A.
I received the Companions on Monday and just cant put them down. At
first I flipped through and thought, better make a start at the beginning a.s.a.p.
after my days treatments. I stayed up until 1:00 am; I just couldnt get
my nose out of Vol I. This is sheer brilliance!
Then I found I was having just a quick look in the 2 minute breaks
to see if there was anything I could add/subtract/better. With being the only
Bowen practitioner in my area at present, I have no one to talk to that can
speak the same Bowen language. Even the dog has got fed up with me. So now
I know why you called it the Home Companion.
Anyway, I am so excited by these books and further reading in the back to progress,
well, I simply cant wait to get back to them and had to tell you.
ELAINE GINGER, BTAA Student, U.K.
